It’s the last weekend of January, and while it is quiet on Amazon, it’s not silent. Here are the five must-see movies on Amazon from Jan. 30 to 31.

Amazon Prime Video doesn’t have a lot new this week. We’re heading to the start of the month for some top picks when it comes to movies.

Most of the must-see movies on Amazon are actually on Amazon Channels. You’ll want to check out HBO and SHOWTIME specifically this weekend.

It’s time to delve into the must-see movies on Amazon from Jan. 30–31.

5 must-see movies on Amazon Prime Video and Amazon Channels this weekend

We’ll start the list with the Amazon Channel releases and finish off with Amazon Prime Video options from the start of January 2021.

The Scorpion King

Let’s go back to a movie from the early ’00s, and a time that The Rock had hair. It’s all about The Scorpion King on HBO. It’s a spin-off of The Mummy franchise, which also makes an appearance on the list of must-see movies on Amazon this week.

If you love The Rock movies, you’re sure to adore this one. This movie takes place 5,000 years before The Mummy movies and follows Mathayus, the legendary Scorpion King. It’s just as hilariously bad as the original movies, which makes it so good.

The Mummy

Of course, The Mummy has to be on the list of movies for the weekend. Both The Mummy and The Mummy Returns are on HBO this weekend, and they’re perfect for the whole family.

The first movie introduces the characters as we watch a curse unleashed. The second movie follows a man who finds the Bracelet of Anubis and ends up releasing a high priest who needs the bracelet to kill the Scorpion King.

Burden

Burden gets its premiere on SHOWTIME this weekend, and it’s a powerful movie to watch. It follows Mike Burden, an orphan raised within the Ku Klux Klan. When he chooses to leave thanks to words from his girlfriend, the KKK seek out vegeance. It’s up to a Black congregation to offer him protection.

There’s a story of redemption and forgiveness within this movie. It’s especially timely right now.

The Truman Show

Jim Carrey fans will want to check out The Truman Show on Amazon Prime Video. It dropped at the start of the month, and you may have overlooked it with the likes of Herself and One Night in Miami dropping.

Carrey plays Truman Burbank, an insurance salesman who is simply happy with his life. What he doesn’t realize is that his life is a reality TV series. When he starts to learn that something is wrong, he tries to escape the world of TV. Of course, some people don’t want that to happen.

Escape from Alcatraz

The final movie is one from the first-of-the-month drop, too. Escape from Alcatraz is the 1979 movie follows Frank, Alcatraz’s most dangerous prisoner. He decides it’s time to escape from the prison.

Many have tried to escape in the past and they’ve failed. Can Frank be the exception to the norm?
