There’s no word on whether The Boys Season 3 has started filming yet, but we do know it’s happening. It’s time to look at what we do know so far.

Amazon Prime Video renewed the series ahead of the second season release. That was despite opting for a weekly release, which was a huge risk considering how viewers are used to watching Amazon shows. And yet, The Boys Season 2 became one of the most popular Amazon shows going.

Now our eyes are on the future of the series. The Boys Season 3 is definitely happening, but we don’t have a lot more information except that.

It’s time to look at what we do know about the upcoming season, with updates to come as we get them.

The Boys Season 3 release date

There isn’t a release date just yet. The last we heard, The Boys Season 3 was going to start filming in either January or February of this year, but there’s been no word on that just yet. It’s hard when Ontario is in a state of emergency (although filming is still happening). However, the cast and crew are in Toronto ready to start filming, so it shouldn’t be too long.

Once filming starts, it will take about 12 months at least to get through filming and post-production.

It took just short of 14 months between the first and second season because of filming and post-production. We could be looking at January 2022 at the earliest for a premiere date.

How will the release work? I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a weekly release just like the first second season.

The Boys Season 3 cast

We know all of The Boys and all of The Seven will return. Well, that is except for Aya Cash. While Stormfront is alive, there are chances that we won’t be seeing her for some time. There’s a spot (or two) open on The Seven.

The Deep is still with the Church of the Collective. Sort of. The last we saw, Alastair said he was too toxic, but then Alastair’s head was blown clean off. So, The Deep is probably still with the Church for now, but how long for?

Claudia Doumit and Colby Minifie have been promoted to series regulars. Expect more from Victoria Neuman and Ashley Barrett in the third season.

There’s a new series regular in the form of Supernatural‘s Jensen Ackles, who will join as a series regular to play Soldier Boy. The character isn’t quite the same as in the graphic novels, but there is some inspiration from the source material.

There was talk of Jeffrey Dean Morgan joining the series, but due to the pandemic and Canada’s quarantining rules, that’s looking less likely.

The Boys Season 3 trailer

There isn’t a trailer just yet. We’ll be sure to bring that when it’s released.

We’ll likely get some sort of teaser trailer first, which will have the “Coming Soon” announcement. However, “Coming Soon” doesn’t mean in a few months. The Boys Season 2 had one of those in early 2020 and it was September 2020 when we finally got the first episodes.

The Boys Season 3 synopsis

What can we expect from The Boys Season 3? We’ll pick up off the back of the first season. The Boys had some sort of victory, although it came at a cost. Butcher’s wife was killed and the Boys sort of broke up.

The Seven is still a problem, though. Homelander may have been taken down a little, but he’s still the most powerful Supe. Or is Soldier Boy going to be more powerful?

The Season 3 premiere is titled “Payback,” which is the name of one of the teams from the comics. Payback was The Seven before The Seven existed, and is the team that Soldier Boy is the leader of. It’s also the team Stormfront was on in the comics.

The season is set to look at how to make America better, and part of that is looking at Vought and American in the past. Then there’s the little mystery of the Supe blowing people’s heads off. Literally.
