Is The Expanse setting the seeds for Cas Anvar’s exit?

We know Cas Anvar is leaving at the end of The Expanse Season 5

When The Expanse Season 6 was confirmed, it came with a couple of sad points. Not only is it going to be the final season, but it will be one Roci crew member down. Cas Anvar isn’t returning.

Anvar’s departure from the series isn’t to do with the initial plot. It’s all linked to sexual misconduct allegations from summer 2020. An investigation happened and afterward, the show decided to write the character of Alex Kamal out of the series.

We have no idea how it is going to happen. The only way Alex would leave his Roci family is through death, right? He’s not going to just choose to leave, will he?

Well, maybe. He decided to try to make things right with his family at the start of The Expanse Season 5, where he saw what the ring gates have done to Mars. The planet is suffering with unemployment and closed businesses. Alex may choose to stick around Mars to help rebuild things on Mars.

While many will wonder what Alex is doing now, it’s not like the series hasn’t done something like this before. Anderson Dawes is still alive in The Expanse universe but hasn’t been seen since the third season because actor Jared Harris hasn’t been available. He’s not been killed off-screen and we just get to hear about him now and then.

The show could do the same with Cas Anvar’s Alex. But it’s likely that The Expanse Season 5, Episode 8 has set the seeds for Alex’s departure.

Will Alex sacrifice himself to save others on The Expanse?

Right now, Alex is in a hard burn to Naomi’s ship. He doesn’t realize that the distress call was faked and that it’s a trap.

However, Naomi has managed to change the message. If Alex hears it again, he may get back in touch with Holden and they may realize that it is all a trap. They may realize just in time that Naomi is there and trying to stop Marco’s plan.

At the same time, Karal has realized the distress message has changed. She now knows that Naomi is likely on the ship. It’s the only explanation. That will lead to her wanting to get there to kill Naomi herself.

With everyone there, it’s unlikely that the trap will work out the way Marco wants. Alex and Bobbie aren’t going to get close to the ship and end up exploded. That wouldn’t be the greatest exit for these two characters—and there is nothing to say that Frankie Adams is leaving the series.

Instead, it looks like everyone may somehow end up on Camina’s ship, allowing a fight to happen between Karal and Naomi and then for Alex to sacrifice himself to save one of his best friends.

The problem is filming for Season 5 wrapped before the investigation was completed. Alex is likely to just disappear, which means the storyline with him staying on Mars is more likely.
