The Boys sweeps wins in its category at the first Critics Choice Super Awards
The first Critics Choice Super Awards saw The Boys win all nominations
It’s not that often a TV show can say it won all nominations it received at an awards show. The Boys can say just that after the first Critics Choice Super Awards.
The new awards show took place on Jan. 10, 2021 on The CW. Due to the pandemic, everything was virtual, but that didn’t stop us from being excited about all the wins The Boys received. It was an excellent night for Amazon Prime Video.
The Boys was nominated in four categories. In some of those categories, there were two nominations, increasing the chance of it winning. Those categories were:
- Best Superhero Series (The Boys)
- Best Villain in a Series (Antony Starr)
- Best Actor in a Superhero Series (Antony Starr and Karl Urban)
- Best Actress in a Superhero Series (Aya Cash)
There were some excellent contenders against the series, including Doom Patrol, Lucifer, and The Umbrella Academy. Yet, our adult superhero series was the one to take away the win.
Who won the categories for The Boys?
It’s easy to tell who won three of the categories since only one was nominated from the series. The Boys won Best Superhero Series, while Antony Starr took Best Villain and Aya Cash took Best Actress.
What about Best Actor? If you’re watching the show, you always want Butcher to win against Homelander, right? However, we have to agree with Starr winning. After all, it isn’t going to be easy for Starr to play such a character when he’s just so sweet in real life.
It’s worth noting that Jensen Ackles won Best Actor in a Horror Series for Supernatural. We’ve got a lot to look forward to when he joins The Boys Season 3.
Noteworthy Amazon Channels wins
There are a few other noteworthy wins at the first Critics Choice Super Awards connected to the Amazon Channels shows.
Jurnee Smollett took the win for Best Actress in a Horror Series. Leti on Lovecraft Country was certainly one hell of a woman, and Smollett deserves the win. It wouldn’t have been an easy decision with Natalie Dormer nominated (and she played four characters on Penny Dreadful: City of Angels!).
Lovecraft Country also one the Best Horror Series up against some excellent shows. I can’t disagree with that decision.
Patrick Stewart took the win for Best Actor in a Sci-Fi/Fantasy Series for Star Trek: Picard. The series was one of the best from 2020, and I’ll admit that I was glad to see him take that win (even if it mean Sam Heughan was overlooked for Outlander again).
Amazon shows that missed out
Sadly, there were a few Amazon shows that missed out on wins in the Critics Choice Super Awards, but at least they were nominated. Upload and Hanna are among the shows that missed out.
