Herself is just one of the new additions to Amazon Prime Video between Jan. 4 and 8

While it’s been a quiet weekend for new releases, the first full week of January offers plenty of content to work through. There are five titles being added to Amazon Prime Video. Well, four titles and a new episode of a fan-favorite Amazon Original.

Everything on this list is available free with your Prime membership. There’s no need to get a Channels subscription.

Just a note: if you are looking at the Channels, HBO sees the release of 30 Coins and BritBox has the first episode of Traces coming this week.

Let’s get into the releases on Amazon Prime Video.

Two Amazon Originals: The Expanse and Herself

There are two Amazon Originals coming to Prime. The first is a new episode of The Expanse.

The last we left the Roci crew, they were still separated with their own storylines. We’re most worried about Naomi and Alex, so hopefully, the upcoming episode will give us some clue over their fates.

Watch The Expanse Season 5, Episode 6 on Wednesday, Jan. 6.

Herself is the second Amazon Original. It’s an inspirational story of a woman who just wants to give her daughters a new home after escaping an abusive relationship. Of course, everything gets in her way from doing that, but can she persevere?

Check out the movie on Friday, Jan. 8.

Other movies coming to Amazon Prime Video this week

There are three other movies joining the streamer this week. The first is the 2020 movie Mighty Oaks.

It starts in the past when Gina Jackson loses her brother in a car accident. Vaughn was an up and coming vocalist in a band she managed, and she takes the loss hard. However, 10 years later, she comes across a guitar prodigy, Oak, and she’s sure this is the reincarnation of her brother.

Mighty Oak is available to stream on Wednesday, Jan. 6.

If you’re more into horror, you’ll want to check out Gretel & Hansel, the latest retelling of the Grimm fairy tale. This is more in line with the Grimm fairy tale, bringing the grittiness and horror of two children who end up trapped in a witch’s house. Can they find a way out?

Find out what happens on Thursday, Jan. 7.

The last movie is another one released during the pandemic. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Annabelle Wallis, and Hero Fiennes Tiffin star in The Silencing. A reformed hunter and a sheriff go after a killer who may have kidnapped the hunter’s daughter five years ago. It’s a dangerous game of cat and mouse.

You can check out the movie on Friday, Jan. 8.
