We learn why Fatin ended up on the camp on The Wilds Season 1, Episode 5

The Wilds Season 1, Episode 5 starts a little differently to the rest. It leaves us wondering what happens to one of the girls until the very end.

Picking up off the back of the previous episode, we learn that Fatin has gone missing. At first, the girls just think she’s possibly messing around. But they know she’s low on supplies (although she did steal some before she left) and one of the girls says that she heard noises from the woods that night.

Our time with the Dawn of Eve employees doesn’t help either. They are worried about Fatin. She’s gone off-camera, and Gretchen is worried that it means something bad; that the experiment is still going wrong.

Why Fatin was sent to the island

While all this happens, we learn more about Fatin and why she’s ended up being sent on this camp in the first place. She’s an amazing cello player, but that doesn’t mean she wants to do this all her life. She’s a 17-year-old girl, and she wants to have some fun.

Her dad stands up for her, talking her mom into having a curfew. One night, Fatin breaks that curfew. Her dad suggests that she sticks to the rules for her mom. Her mom just wants the best for her.

Things seem to go well until Fatin learns that her dad is cheating on her mom. To get revenge, she sends some of the naked photos of her dad to the world of the internet. It gets back to her mom, who is devastated by the news, naturally.

Think that’s going to solve everything? Oh no! Her dad learns that Fatin was the one to send the pictures out there. Her parents turn on Fatin, blaming her for her mom losing a couple of auction listings and the negative energy in the home. Yes, her mother decides to take her father’s side.

Fatin learns that not only is she off to this Dawn of Eve camp, but she will also go to a strict Muslim boarding school when she returns. And as entitled as Fatin is, it’s hard not to feel sorry for her in this moment.

Gretchen and the Dawn of Eve team fear the worst

Throughout The Wilds Season 1, Episode 5, we get glimpses of the Dawn of Eve team. There are cameras that aren’t working, which means there are blind spots on the island. Hopefully, Fatin is just in one of those spots and is fine, but they can’t guarantee that.

We know as much as they know, which leaves us worried about Fatin. Gretchen is stressed. While she is putting the girls through their paces, she is setting it up in a way that is safe(ish). She cares about these young ladies, and that starts to show during this episode.

Do the girls find Fatin on The Wilds Season 1, Episode 5?

As the girls search the woods for Fatin, they get into an argument. Leah refuses to give up her book for firewood, clinging onto the past. Rachel is angry at the world, and especially Dot. Dot has lost the lighter, which means they need to work hard to keep the fire burning. Nora stays behind to do just that.

Leah gets more and more concerned about Fatin as they get deeper into the woods and start to find items of her clothing torn and bloody. Has something happened to her?

The focus is moved from Fatin for a while. While Rachel and Dot head off in a different direction to cover more ground, Rachel ends up in a mud pit that is a lot like quicksand.  The other girls hear them crying out for help and rush to their aid. They get Rachel out of the mud pit, and the search is back on for Fatin.

Finally, they start screaming out for Fatin. Eventually, they come across her. She’s safe and healthy. She just took it upon herself to find water. And that’s exactly what she’s done. She used her clothing to leave herself a bread trail to get back to the group and then get back to the water.

It’s freshwater. They finally have drinking water, although it needs to be boiled to kill off the microbes in it. That wait is worth it.

We end the episode with the girls working together. They’re all back on the same page. And their morale is high after finding water. Fatin is also back in with the group.
