We jump to Day Six on the island during The Wilds Season 1, Episode 4

The Wilds Season 1, Episode 4 gives us a look at Toni’s story, trying to offer an insight into her anger. Meanwhile, on the island, the girls take part in a shelter building competition.

Things certainly get heated. Toni sabotages her team’s chances of winning the shelter competition, while Leah and Fatin go to blows. Here’s a look at everything that happened during “Day Six.”

Toni’s story of love and loss

Toni is an angry young woman. That’s probably not surprising considering she’s grown up in foster care on the reservations. She’s angry at the world and angry at constantly having to fight for equality. It’s a feeling that so many people on the reservations have around North America.

Yet, Toni’s anger isn’t just about that. She’s scared of being hurt more. She wants to keep Martha close to her because Martha is all she has left.

During the episode, we watch Toni meet a new girl at school. They instantly have a connection and they start a relationship. Toni’s anger gets in the way of that teen love and Regan breaks up with Toni.

Martha is the one who is there for Toni after it all, including offering Toni a place to stay. Is there more to Toni’s feelings than friendship for Martha? If there is, it doesn’t look like Martha returns them.

We don’t fully get to the bottom of Toni’s anger, but her upbringing definitely has a lot to do with it.

Shelter building competition on The Wilds Season 1, Episode 4

Meanwhile, we’re onto Day Six on the island. A bag of Takis Fuego washes up on the beach. Both Toni and Dot have a claim to them, but it’s clear all the girls want them. They’re fed up with eating nuts.

Quite honestly, they could have just agreed to share the bag between the eight of them. In the end, Shelby suggests a shelter building competition, which Dot is definitely on board with the idea of. Toni isn’t happy about having to fight for something like this, but she joins in.

With the teams split as Dot, Rachel, Leah, and Fatin and then Toni, Martha, Shelby, and Nora, it’s clear that there are going to be arguments.

Toni and Shelby instantly go up against each other with plans. Shelby actually wants a plan instead of blindly going into the woods for any sort of material to use for a shelter. Toni is fed up with Shelby taking control. In the end, it doesn’t matter. Toni lashes out against her group, destroying the shelter that they’ve made.

Meanwhile, Leah is fed up with Fatin lazing about and only caring about herself. The two girls go to blows about it, eventually leading to Fatin covering Leah’s face in her blood. Leah walks into the ocean, leading to many of the girls being worried about her.

Later on, when they’re all in the same shelter, Fatin asks if anyone has any spare Coke. She’s run out of hers, and the others point out they were supposed to control their own rations. Leah doesn’t think Fatin should get anything extra since she did nothing to help all day with the shelter.

Fatin points out that everyone is wearing her clothes. While that could have some weight in a normal situation, her entitled attitude doesn’t sit well with Leah. They’re in the middle of nowhere and everyone should work together. Leah says that people can give up their rations if they want, but nobody seems to want to.

Fatin is left out in the cold, but it’s clear that not everyone is sure what to do now.

Gretchen meets with Leah’s parents

While all this goes on during The Wilds Season 1, Episode 4, Leah’s parents check in with Gretchen to see how their daughter is doing. Gretchen plays the long game. She hasn’t told the parents about everything that’s happened and just pretends like everything is going as normal.

So, while the parents did send their children to this camp, they didn’t send the children out to the wilderness alone. What happens when the parents learn the truth?
