It’s almost time to get Chernobyl on 4K, and here’s what to expect

There are some TV shows that stay with you. HBO’s Chernobyl is one of them. You can already get it on DVD, but it’s time to buy Chernobyl on 4K for the best viewing option.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of Chernobyl on 4K. All opinions are my own.

This is a haunting series, and the lack of Russian accents isn’t a bad thing. Instead of having actors put on terrible accents, the show opted to keep British accents to allow the focus to be on the story and the talent. And it meant we got the likes of Jared Harris, Stellan Skarsgård, and Emily Watson for the series.

Chernobyl on 4K and Blu-ray

Chernobyl on 4K comes with all five one-hour episodes, but it also includes bonus content. All the episodes are available in 4K and normal Blu-ray format. You will also get a Digital code with the boxset so you can download each of the episodes on your favorite devices. There’s no need for a HBO subscription if this is the only show you want to watch.

The bonus content is not available in 4K Ultra HD, but is still worth the watch. You’ll get:

  • Meet the Key Players
  • Inside the Episode
  • Behind the Curtain: Director Johan Renck
  • Script to Screen: The Divers
  • Pivotal Moment: The Trial

I always find the bonus content that focuses on the journey from script to screen interesting. I also love hearing from the directors or the showrunners. These types of features allow us to know the direction everyone wanted to head in and the story they wanted to tell. Then we can see whether that was accomplished or not.

While it’s not Amazon, it’s important to note that if you get through Best Buy, you’ll get the SteelBook Collectible Case. This is only available through Best Buy and makes for a secure case for the boxset. It’s a limited edition case, so once it’s gone, that’s it!

For those in Canada, it’s available with the limited edition case at Sunrise only.

How much for Chernobyl on 4K

If you’re getting off Amazon, you’ll get a slightly cheaper price. The suggested retail price is $44.98. If you want the limited edition case, you’re paying a little more, with the SRP set at $50.02.

Of course, in the run-up to the release on Tuesday, Dec. 1, the price can drop. It’s already dropped on Amazon to $34.99 at the time of writing this, so you’ll want to pre-order now.

Grab the series with Prince Guarantee and you’ll only pay the lowest it drops to from then up to the release date. You’ll also grab it with two-day free shipping with Amazon Prime.
