The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel end being rethought due to the pandemic
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel may end sooner than any of us want
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has become a firm favorite on Amazon Prime Video, not just with viewers but also with critics. However, the show may come to an end sooner than we want.
Nobody knows how long creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and her husband, Dan Palladino, expected the show to run. They have never said how many seasons they have in mind, but they do know an end point for Midge. They know where her journey comes to a stop.
Whether that’s on a high or a low isn’t known. But they have an idea.
However, the ending may come sooner rather than later, and it’s all because of the pandemic. TVLine shared the disappointing (but understandable) news.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel isn’t a show for close quarters
Anyone who has seen an episode of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel knows that this isn’t a show for pandemic filming. Everyone is certainly going to try when filming resumes in January, but the show is loud, it’s big, and it’s made for lots of extras. Just remember the air hanger when there were a good few hundred extras around.
Nothing like that can happen this season, and not due to budget. They’re simply not allowed as many people around due to health and safety. I do fear that something will feel missing on the series.
And this could have a knock-on effect in the future. If the show can’t pack the punch it always has done, maybe it’s time to wrap the story. End on a high instead of on a low. I always think any TV show should end when it’s at a high point. Leave people craving more.
Right now, the creators are rethinking a few things for the end. They know where Midge’s journey will end; that hasn’t changed. What they don’t know is how long it will take, and whether it will need to be cut short.
