When is The New Mutants coming to DVD and Blu-ray?

Movie theaters are starting to open up. That means movies are heading there as well as VOD to rent, and The New Mutants is one of those movies, but only heading to theaters.

The 20th Century Studios (yep, remember the brand change!) movie is finally out. If you’re not too sure about whether the movie is for you or not, you may be waiting for the DVD and Blu-ray release. When is The New Mutants on DVD and Blu-ray?

We can’t give you an exact date just yet. We’ll be sure to update as soon as we can. But for now, we can give you an estimated date.

Predicting a The New Mutants DVD and Blu-ray release date

We can look at movies from the same studio to get an idea of the release date. In this case, we’re looking at Ad Astra and Alita: Battle Angel.

Even though there is a pandemic, the timeline for movie releases on physical disc hasn’t changed that much. We shouldn’t expect that much here, either.

Ad Astra made it to DVD within three months of the theatrical release date. Alita: Battle Angel fans had to wait a surprising five months. We don’t think The New Mutants is going to follow the manga adaptation’s lead. Three months is about right, so we’re looking at the end of November 2020 or the very start of December 2020 as the release date.

Buying The New Mutants on Digital

Unlike other movies released during the pandemic, The New Mutants hasn’t become available to rent on VOD. It will eventually, but probably around the same time it’s available to purchase.

It’s likely the Digital release will happen two weeks before the DVD release. This has become standard for 20th Century Studios. We’re looking at mid-November at the earliest.

Will it come to streaming for free? More than likely, but we’re looking at either HBO Max or Disney Plus (maybe Hulu) for that. It’s going to depend on licensing. Most 20th Century Studios movies are still heading to HBO right now, so that’s the likely placement.

Reviews haven’t been good for The New Mutants so far. Critics give it a 32% rating, while audiences are also on the low side with a 53% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
