There are a few legends out there, and most of them have tragic stories. The fame and fortune went to their heads or they succumbed to awful diseases and struggled with illnesses and addiction. Elton John’s tale could have been the same. Rocketman gives us a look at the early life of the legend and the turning point that saved his life.
We all know at least one Elton John song. Those who have watched Mulan Rouge or Gnomeo and Juliet will happily sing a number of tracks. There are many more. But do you know the story behind many of them? Do you know the journey that Elton has been on throughout the years?

That’s something Rocketman offers a look at. Taron Egerton portrays the legend, singing his songs and bringing to life a story that is now easy to forget because of the successful career. However, it’s an important story of love, loss, addiction, pain, and survival.
We get to see the early life of finding fame and starting relationships that he had to hide (think of the time). It’s a story of the addictions he faced, and the way those addictions led to a breakdown in his relationships. He could have lost it all, but he chooses rehab.
And while there are certainly fictionalized elements to the tale, Elton John has praised this movie on his life. He’s praised Taron Egerton’s acting and singing. This is one that you need to watch at least once, and now you have no excuse not to.
Critics on Rotten Tomatoes have given the movie an 89% score and rated it Certified Fresh. Audiences aren’t that far behind giving it an 88% score. It’s not often both critics and audiences can agree, so I’m sure that says a lot.
