USA Network has canceled Treadstone after one season. Should Amazon Prime Video step up to save the series?

We’re at that point in the year where networks start to announce their renewals and cancellations. USA has opted to cancel both Treadstone and The Purge. Right now, we’re focusing on the first of those two cancellations.

Should Amazon Prime Video save Treadstone from cancellation? Is there hope for the Bourne-inspired series? Let’s take a look with some honesty.

Why Amazon and not other streaming services

I know there are questions about why Amazon should be the one to save the show. This is purely due to the international deal. Treadstone is a Prime Original internationally, which was something that had been considered a safety net for USA Network. Clearly, the revenue from Amazon wasn’t enough to offset the costs for production.

With Amazon already airing the season outside the U.S., it would make more sense for the streamer to save the show compared to other networks. Think of it a little like The Expanse airing Amazon in many locations, including the U.S., so it made more sense for the streamer to save the show or Lucifer airing on Netflix in many international locations so it made more sense for that streamer to save the devilish program.

There are storyline options there

To start with, there’s no way that the storylines have come to complete ends. While some of the characters’ storylines have definitely come to an end, there are others who could have more development.

One of the biggest disappointments was not getting more of John and Petra. Their storyline was intriguing, well thought out, and strongly developed up until the finale. There just wasn’t enough time to continue it, but there was hope of a second season to allow that. With this in mind, maybe Amazon should renew the series.

When it comes to the sleeper agents, there are plenty of directions the show could go with this. There are more sleeper agents out there in the world and more reasons to wake them up. Even if the actors from the first season didn’t return, there’s the option of creating some sort of anthology set-up.

There’s no shortage of material for this Bourne franchise series. This is one of those shows that makes you think and concentrate. It takes you on a journey, much like the movies that it’s based on. We need more material like that, so Amazon should save this series.
