Wonder Woman 1984 still heading to theaters, gets August theatrical date
Those worried Wonder Woman 1984 would head straight to streaming can breathe a sigh of relief. The DC film is still heading to theaters, just a little later in the year.
Let’s be honest; there’s only one way we can see Wonder Woman 1984 for the first time. It has to happen on the big screen. There are no ifs or buts about it, and Warner Bros. agrees with us.
As the coronavirus shuts down theaters around the world, production studios have to rethink current movie plans. Some are releasing the movies on Digital on the dates of their theatrical releases, while others are postponing releases to make sure they come to theaters.

Fans wondered if Wonder Woman 1984 would head to a streaming service straight away. It could make sense if the coronavirus pandemic continues, but we want to see it on the big screen first. This is a movie that deserves to get a theatrical release.
The good news is Warner Bros. agrees with us. While the delay is postponed, we do have a release date for now. Instead of June 5, the movie is heading to theaters on Aug. 14. With any hope, the global pandemic will get at the end and theaters will be open. Warner Bros. will delay the release further if necessary.
Deadline reports that August is a good month for DC overall. It’s the month that Suicide Squad was released and made almost $750m worldwide. The first Wonder Woman movie was released in the same month in 2017 and made more than 800m worldwide. It makes sense to push the date to the same month.
So far, many other Warner Bros. movies have been removed from theatrical listings and postponed. No dates have been confirmed for the likes of Into the Heights and Scoob!. However, Tenet is still set for a July 15 release date, with the hope that this is when the social distancing and shutdown protocols are removed.
