While not the greatest movie to be released in 2015, it was still an entertaining one. It also marked the end of the franchise of movies based on The Hunger Games novels by Suzanne Collins. These were the movies that made Jennifer Lawrence the big name that she’s since become, showing off her star potential.
There is also a bittersweet element to the movie. It would be the last movie with Philip Seymour Hoffman, who died of an overdose shortly after filming.
The Hunger Games offered a dystopian story that focused on family, courage, and resistance. Mockingjay Part 2 brought us stories of sacrifice, honor, and love.
3. The Revenant
Released: Dec. 25
Directed by: Alejandro G. Iñárritu
Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy, Domhnall Gleeson, Will Poulter
The Revenant is one of the greatest movies to come out of 2015. After all, it was the movie that brought Leonardo DiCaprio the Oscar that he’d deserved for an extremely long time. For years, he’d lost out (arguably because of some other great actors) and we wondered if it would ever happen. This time it did.
The Revenant is set in 1823, with Captain Andrew Henry’s trappers, guided by Hugh Glass, through unorganized territories of what is now the Dakotas. When the company is attacked by an Arikara war party, Glass, his son, and the survivors need to find a way to survive, and it may be through some extremely unconventional ways.
