New Year’s Day is an excellent chance to sit down with the family and watch great TV. Many of you are likely looking forward to the Doctor Who New Year’s Day special, but there are many hours to go. You want to use them well with great TV shows, and Amazon Prime Video certainly has you covered with these five suggestions.
5. Sesame Street
Let’s start with something for the kids. Sesame Street will lead to many great memories for parents, and now you can share the love for that with your children. While entertaining, Sesame Street is also educational.
One of the great things about this is you can put a few episodes on for the kids while you tidy up after the New Year’s Eve celebrations or while you make dinner. Perfect, right?

4. Jack Ryan
When you want something with action, Amazon has you covered with Jack Ryan. There are two seasons to watch right now, with the third coming at some point in 2020. Whether you’ve read the books or not, you’ll find Jack Ryan the perfect viewing. I’ll admit that the first season is stronger than the second, but I find that with a lot of TV shows.
3. Modern Love
Looking for a feel-good anthology series? Modern Love is the show to watch. Each episode is an individual storyline, so you can look for your favorite actors or check out the storylines. There’s no need to watch this series in order.
It’s perfect for the adults and older children. Some of the episodes can also be okay for younger children to watch, but they’ll probably get bored!
2. Poldark
If you need a great period drama, turn to Poldark. So far, four seasons are available with the fifth season coming to Amazon Prime Video sometime in 2020. You can currently watch with your PBS Passport through Amazon Channels, though.
Based on the books, the five seasons take you through Ross Poldark’s life. It’s time to see Aidan Turner in the role of a lifetime.
1. Good Omens
Need something funny, with great acting and righting? Good Omens is the top pick of shows to watch on Amazon on New Year’s Day 2020. You’ll get through the entire season within one day since there are only six episodes.
Whether you’ve read the book or not, this is a show that will make you laugh, keep you on your toes, and give you multiple storylines that eventually connect. Oh, and God is a woman, which will put a smile on many faces.
