What’s new on Amazon Prime Video on the weekend of Dec. 20-22? The Aeronauts finally floats onto streaming, and several more movies are arriving!

It’s the final weekend before Christmas, and by this point, you might be burnt out on holiday movies. Amazon Prime Video is here with a break in your festive routine by offering up a new drama, war thriller, and a romantic comedy for the weekend of Dec. 20-22.

The Aeronauts (2019)

  • Director: Tom Harper
  • Starring: Eddie Redmayne, Felicity Jones, Himesh Patel, and Tom Courtenay

The Aeronauts is a new film from Amazon Studios about a scientist and a young widow who embark on a hot-air balloon expedition. The movie is set in the year 1862 and is surprisingly thrilling.

Redmayne and Jones lead the cast as James Glaisher and Amelia Wren. The intrepid explorers hope to make history by flying higher than anyone who came before them. They soon discover their ambitious goals could cost them their lives and more.

The Wedding Year (2019)

More from Movies on Amazon

  • Director: Robert Luketic
  • Starring: Sarah Hyland, Tyler James Williams, Jenna Dewan, Matt Shively, and Anna Camp

The Wedding Year is an adorable new romantic-comedy that is perfect for the holiday season. Modern Family star Sarah Hyland plays 27-year-old commitmentphobe, Mara Hickey.

Mara begins to feel pressured into getting married when she and her boyfriend attend a whopping seven weddings in one year. Mara’s boyfriend, Jake (Williams), is ready to settle down, but will his and Mara’s relationship manage to survive wedding bell hell?

The Kill Team (2019)

  • Director: Dan Krauss
  • Starring: Nat Wolff, Adam Long, Jonathan Whitesell, Brian “Sene” Marc, Osy Ikhile, Anna Francolini, Rob Morrow, and Alexander Skarsgård
  • Release Date: Dec. 21

A24 released The Kill Team this past October, but the film mostly fell under the radar despite gaining approval from critics. It’s a war story about a young soldier in Afghanistan who is horrified to learn that his sergeant dictated the murders of several civilians.

Wolff plays the soldier, a US Specialist, who finds all of his morals put into question as he begins to worry about the people he’s serving and the squad he’s joined.

What to look forward to:

  • Night Hunter, 2019 – Dec. 25
  • Transformers: Dark of the Moon, 2011 – Dec. 30
  • What Men Want, 2019 – Dec. 30
