Last year’s adorable dramedy, Instant Family, is a must-watch from its new offerings. Plus, you won’t want to miss out on the zany zombie musical that is Anna and the Apocalypse.
You can also catch up on some of this weekend’s new entries, such as the documentary film One Child Nation or new episodes of His Dark Materials with your HBO Channel subscription. Starz has Dublin Murders based on the popular Dublin Murder Squad book series by Tana French.

Angel Has Fallen (2019)
- Director: Ric Roman Waugh
- Starring: Gerard Butler, Piper Perabo, Lance Reddick, Morgan Freeman, Danny Huston, Nick Nolte, and Jada Pinkett Smith
- Available: November 12 for rent or purchase through Amazon Video
It’s still too early for Angel Has Fallen to begin streaming since the film only came out theatrically a few months ago. However, it will be available to rent or purchase through Amazon Video starting this week. Butler returns to star in the third film of the Fallen trilogy.
Secret Service Agent Mike Banning is framed for an assassination attempt on the U.S. President and must clear his name before it’s too late. Due to the success of Angel Has Fallen at the box office, more films and even a potential television series are in the works.
Anna and the Apocalypse (2018)
- Director: John McPhail
- Starring: Ben Wiggins, Ella Hunt, and Malcolm Cumming
- Available: November 13
Anna and the Apocalypse arrives on Prime in time for the holidays to the delight of Christmas and horror fans everywhere. Anna is an unconventional zombie apocalypse story set at Christmastime. It is also a musical! This movie truly has it all.
Don’t let the joyous occasion fool you, though; this is still an R-rated film for a reason. Anna and her friends have to fight an invasion of zombies into their quirky small town of Little Haven on the jolliest day of the year.
Romans (2017)
- Director: Paul and Ludwig Shammasian
- Starring: Orlando Bloom, Janet Montgomery, Anne Reid, and Charlie Creed-Miles
- Available: November 13
Romans premiered at the Edinburgh International Film Festival back in 2017 and hasn’t been heard of since. It doesn’t have a critical or audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, so we’ll all be wandering into this one a little blind.
It does pack a compelling cast with the likes of Janet Montgomery and Orlando Bloom, however. The film focuses on Bloom’s character, Malky, as he transitions into adulthood, still struggling over the trauma of being abused by a priest as a boy.
Instant Family (2018)
- Director: Sean Anders
- Starring: Rose Byrne, Mark Wahlberg, Tig Notaro, Isabela Merced, Octavia Spencer, and Margo Martindale
- Available: November 14
Rose Bryne and Mark Wahlberg lead this earnest dramedy that became one of the breakout hits of 2018. Pete and Ellie hope to start a family. They look into adoption and plan on adopting a child, but that child comes with several other child-sized strings attached.
Suddenly, the married couple finds themselves in over their heads as they grapple with what it means to become parents and build a home together. If you didn’t get the chance to watch this marvelous little film last year, now is the perfect time to check it out.
The Souvenir (2019)
- Director: Joanna Hogg
- Starring: Tosin Cole, Honor Swinton Byrne, Richard Ayoade, and Tilda Swinton
- Available: November 14
The Souvenir is a critically acclaimed new coming-of-age drama sporting a female director, and it should certainly not be skipped. Critics are calling it both tender and charming. Its story is a universal one that many should enjoy. It focuses on a shy aspiring film student who embarks on a serious relationship with a dangerous male suitor.
