Patricia Arquette stars in this 1999 supernatural thriller as an atheist hairdresser. She suddenly notices the appearance of stigmata on her body after handling a mysterious rosary.

If you’re unfamiliar, stigmata are bodily wounds corresponding to marks Christ would have borne during his crucifixion. A corrupt priest from the Vatican takes over the investigation into her case to determine the truth of her new scars.

11. Hereditary (2018)

  • Directed by: Ari Aster
  • Starring: Toni Collette, Alex Wolff, Milly Shapiro, Ann Dowd, and Gabriel Bryne

Hereditary only premiered last year, but it is already considered one of the scariest horror movies ever made. Many are still disappointed that Toni Collette was snubbed for an Academy Award nomination. The film follows the Graham family in the aftermath of the matriarch’s death. Annie Graham (Collette) works as a miniature artist and never had a good relationship with her mother.

She soon learns her mother left behind a dark and dangerous legacy that threatens to put her entire family at risk in horrific ways. Annie, her husband, her eccentric daughter, and moody teenage son must all contend with the dramatic effect of her death.
