The end of another month means a plethora of new movies just arrived on Amazon Prime Video. We’ve chosen five films for you to watch this Friday night.

At the end of every month, Amazon typically releases a big batch of new and old movies. If nothing else has appealed to you on the streaming service in July, maybe you’ll find a gem in their latest group of offerings.

However, it can be overwhelming to go through all the options they have to choose from so we’ve made things easier for you by choosing five recommended films from the collection. If you’re staying in this Friday night, either alone, with family, or with friends, we’ve got the perfect movie for you to watch.

5. Arctic (2018)

  • Directed by: Joe Penna

If you’re in the mood for a survival thriller…watch this new release starring Mads Mikkelson as a man stranded in the Arctic Circle after a plane crash. He is left with the crucial decision of staying in the safety of his camp or making the deadly journey towards freedom. Mikkelson is excellent in this movie, especially as he must carry the entirety of the film on his back.

4. Dumb and Dumber (1994)

  • Starring: Jim Carrey, Jeff Daniels, Lauren Holly, Teri Garr, Karen Duffy, and Lin Shaye

If you’re in the mood for some slapstick…watch, or rewatch this classic comedy about best friends Lloyd and Harry. When both men get fired, Lloyd convinces Harry to search for his dream woman in Colorado.

What they don’t realize is that Harry’s dream woman, Mary Swanson, is currently in Aspen trying to locate her kidnapped husband. Harry and Lloyd find themselves mixed up in a crime and their crazy exploits inadvertently help lead the FBI to the crooks in question.

3. Twelve Monkeys (1995)

If you’re in the mood for a sci-fi time-travel film…watch this twisty thriller about Bruce Willis’s character, Cole, a man who is sent back in time in order to save humanity from a deadly virus. On his travels, he meets a psychiatrist and a mental patient who may hold the key to the mystery of a group known as the Army of the 12 Monkeys who are responsible for unleashing the disease.

Watch if you liked: I, Robot, Transcendence, Resident Evil, Andromeda Strain, Gattaca, Robocop, or Minority Report.

2. Corpse Bride (2005)

  • Directed by: Tim Burton and Mike Johnson
  • Starring: Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham-Carter, Emily Watson, and Tracey Ullman

If you’re in the mood for a darkly whimsical family film…check out Tim Burton’s The Corpse Bride. The movie centers on an arranged marriage between Victor and Victoria.

But before Victor can make it to the alter he is taken to the land of the dead by a woman named Emily who wishes to marry Victor. He must make his way back to the world of the living before Victoria is married off to the sinister Barkis Bittern.

1. Rat Race (2001)

  • Starring: Rowan Atkinson, John Cleese, Whoopi Goldberg, Cuba Gooding Jr., John Lovitz, Seth Green, Amy Smart, and Kathy Najimy

If you’re in the mood for a madcap comedy…you should check out Rat Race. It’s a fun film about some a group of people all competing to win a lucrative $2 million cash prize. In order to win, they have to race from Las Vegas to New Mexico.

The cast is full of recognizable faces and despite not performing well with critics, audiences liked it quite a bit. It wound up being commercially successful at the box office and is sure to keep you laughing.
