When is Detective Pikachu coming to Amazon Video, DVD, and Blu-ray?

Detective Pikachu is the highly anticipated debut of live-action Pokemon on the big screen. But when can you take the movie home to own?

Ryan Reynolds is starring as the adorable live-action version of Pikachu in his live-action debut. Detective Pikachu comes out in theaters this weekend.

Fans have been waiting to see a realistic depiction of Pokemon on screen for years now and it looks like the film version is going to live up to expectations. Right now, the movie is sitting at a 70% on Rotten Tomatoes, exceeding many’s expectations.

Justice Smith stars alongside Reynolds as Tim Goodman, the son of Detective Harry Goodman. Tim must team up with Pikachu, his father’s former partner, to figure out the truth about what happened to his father.

Considering how passionate Pokemon fans are, it’s not surprising many will want to get ahead of the ball and pre-order Detective Pikachu so you can watch it over and over again at home. It’s shaping up to be a crowd-pleaser and more light-hearted than recent blockbusters (ahem, like Avengers: Endgame).

Going by Warner Brothers’ recent releases Isn’t It Romantic, The Lego Movie 2, and Aquaman, it will take about three months for Detective Pikachu to be released on DVD and Blu-ray. In that case, we can expect the film to become available on Amazon by late August or early September.

As for the Amazon Video release date, given the trajectory for the aforementioned films, the digital release for Detective Pikachu will likely be exactly three weeks before the DVD/Blu-Ray release date. In that case, it will probably be available to buy on Amazon Video in late July or early August.

Detective Pikachu is not yet available for pre-order but we will keep you updated when it becomes available.
