15 TV shows still in danger of being canceled in 2019 (and 5 Amazon should save)
In danger: Lore
I wish I could say otherwise, but this Prime Original has me worried. The second season was released in October 2018 and we haven’t heard a peep since. Usually, Amazon Originals are renewed within months of debuting. We only have to look at Hanna to see that this is the case. Others are renewed ahead of the season debuts, like The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, The Man in the High Castle, and Bosch.
The fact that we’re still waiting for Lore is disturbing — and not in a creepy tale way. Whether it’s the fact that there just isn’t the interest or the complaints about the vision for the second season were too high is unknown. All I know is there’s been absolutely no news about this series in so long.
Great news is the Lore podcast is still going. I highly recommend it, especially if you love the first season.
In danger: Madam Secretary
I don’t think it’s surprising that Madam Secretary is on my list. The CBS series is one of the lowest rated on the network and it’s now wrapped its fifth season, which means there’s no time to pull the ratings up.
CBS will want to remove some shows to make way for others. I worry that Madam Secretary will be one of them because of the low ratings. However, I also hope that the network will offer it one final season to tie up loose ends.
In danger: Speechless
ABC isn’t having much luck with some of its comedies this year — although it’s midseason freshman TV shows are also struggling — and Speechless is at the very bottom of all ABC shows. I have a feeling that this means the series will be canceled.
Let’s be honest, the network has to make room for other shows. There are only so many hours in the week, unlike Amazon Prime, which can get away with multiple releases on one day. A poor performing show is going to get the sack in favor of a potentially good new show.
Should save: Shadowhunters
I promised myself I wouldn’t put this on but that was only because it’s an obvious choice. The fans want it and they’ve fought hard for this. But why put Shadowhunters on when I refused to put Timeless on. Well, this show is currently on the air.
While the ratings are down from the previous season, most of the viewers don’t watch live on Freeform. They watch through delayed viewing or through Netflix if they’re international (and there’s a huge international fanbase). Plus, all shows on Freeform saw a slump this year, suggesting that live ratings mean very little now.
Shadowhunters is one of the most progressive and supportive shows. The cast and crew are supportive and interactive with the fans, while the show itself offers something positive for fans of all races, sexualities, and interests to tune into. There’s no doubt it would work on Amazon Prime considering the love for fantasy shows.
In fact, Amazon barely has any fantasy shows. This would be the perfect introduction to the streaming service.
