For those who want a thriller, this is certainly a movie to consider. Frances, a young girl living in New York, finds a handbag abandoned on the subway. She decides to track down the owner, who happens to be an older piano teacher who goes by the name of Greta.
If only things were as simple as returning the handbag. That wouldn’t make a movie, would it? Yes, Greta is hiding something. A recent widow, she’s lonely, and she’s looking for someone to spend some time with her. Frances, who lost her mother at a young age, finds this woman as a sort of surrogate mother and the two quickly bond.
What could possibly go wrong from there? Which one of the two is most at risk?
The movie certainly received mixed reviews. However, it really does depend on what you want to gain from the movie. This is a stark look at humanity and there’s a message of need, loneliness, and preying on people needing something within the story. On Rotten Tomatoes, 55% of critics and 44% of audiences recommend it.
