Matthew McConaughey is back with another comedy. It’s out in theaters now, but many want to know when they can watch The Beach Bum at home. When is The Beach Bum on Amazon Video, DVD, and Blu-ray?
With it only just being released in theaters, don’t expect the DVD release to come too soon. Most movies take three months to be released on DVD and Blu-ray, so we’re looking at late June or early July for the release.

Amazon Video releases usually come a little sooner. The Digital copy should be available for purchase two weeks or so before the DVD release, so we’re probably looking at early to mid-June, depending on the DVD release.
We could see the DVD release as early as late June, as the Box Office results haven’t been good. It is McConaughey’s worst debut ever, after a disappointing release with Serenity.
This isn’t because of the movie, though. It’s all due to the lack of marketing and the poor decisions made by the studio. Originally planned for a slow release to build up traction, the studio, Neon, made the last-minute decision to release at 1,000+ studios over the weekend. There wasn’t the time to spread word of mouth.
The Beach Bum doesn’t have the greatest reviews. McConaughey plays Moondog, a poetry writer who lives a nomadic-like lifestyle. His lifestyle is supported by his rich wife, his daughter, and his literary agent. He’s one of the least likable characters you’ll come to meet as the main character in a movie until he starts to learn some life lessons.
This is a movie with a star-studded cast, including Isla Fisher, Jonah Hill, Zac Efron, and Snoop Dogg. However, it’s just not taken off in the way Neon likely hoped.
