We’re getting closer to Christmas Day but there are still some movies to watch. Day #23 on the Christmas Countdown is all about the Matt Damon and John Krasinski movie, Promised Land.

There have been some excellent movies on Amazon during December and there have been some duds. At Amazon Adviser, we’ve brought a movie a day from the month. Promised Land is up for Day #23 of the Christmas Countdown.

Starring Matt Damon and John Krasinski, this is a movie that will tug at the heartstrings but will also make you think about small towns and that sense of community. Let’s delve into the movie that’s on the list for the day.

What is Promised Land about?

Damon plays a salesman who is sent to a small town to help expand his multi-billion corporation to expand the natural gas pipeline. Considering how the small town is failing, it should be a no-brainer but there are people against him.

It comes to a head when a school teacher gets support to spread the opposition for the pipeline. Sure enough, it soon becomes a story of David vs. Goliath and trying to choose between the potential future of millions or their small town community.

Financial and critical success

I’ll start by saying that the critics and audiences have been mixed on this movie. It’s really going to depend on what you want to gain from it. While it’s directed by Good Will Huntings‘s Gus Van Sant, it doesn’t reach the same levels of emotions and storytelling. But at the same time, there’s still something there that makes it a story.

It certainly wasn’t a financial success, though. It barely made half of its $15m budget back in the United States partially due to its limited release.

Now you’ve got the chance to watch it without spending an extra penny. Promised Land is available with your current Prime subscription.
