9. The Expanse

After three seasons, SYFY canceled The Expanse. Just as it was building to something big, the network chose to end it and fans were understandably angry. Queue Amazon to rectify the mistake. It quickly stood up to renew the series, bringing arguably, it’s best season yet.

On top of that, Amazon showed its support for the series by renewing The Expanse for Season 5 ahead of the fourth season premiere. It was clear from the reception of the first three seasons dropping on Amazon Prime Video internationally that this was a show for all.

While it’s a sci-fi show, it’s not your standard story. It’s one of three groups of people, all with their own goals but all with one problem to solve. They have to come together or they will die alone. Of course, there’s racism and fear. The series brings real-world problems within a space setting.

The Expanse also has stories of love, friendship, and teamwork. There is something for all, even if sci-fi isn’t your usual forte. This is simply one of those shows that you need to watch.

The seasons are relatively easy to binge-watch coming in at 10-13 episodes per season. The storylines are contained, which makes for fun viewing, but look out for foreshadowing of things to come later.
