3. Paranormal Activity

The found-footage movies have gone over the top now, but there’s one that will always stand out for me. It’s all about Paranormal Activity. Set in one house with a series of cameras put out, this is the type of movie that makes you question everything that goes bump in the night. And it certainly brings up the feelings you had in Blair Witch Project, but there’s something scarier about this one.

Katie and Micah move into their new home and Katie starts believing in an evil presence in the house. To make it worse, she’s sure this presence has followed her from being a child. There’s a simplicity to the story and a lot of what happens is off camera, leaving you to your own imagination. And you know that’s always scary!

The follow-up movies haven’t been terrible. But the first will always be the scariest.

2. The Strangers

This is a lesson in never answering the door when you go away to a cabin. You never know who is going to be at the door. In this case, it’s a group of murderers who only attacked their victims because they happened to be home. Creepy, right?

One thing that makes The Strangers scarier is that it’s based on a true story. And you never get to see the attackers’ faces. Their voices are somewhat muffled by the masks they wear, so you’re left wondering whether you’ll see them again.
