Amazon Studios movie Gleason, chronicling the life of former NFL player Steve Gleason and his fight with ALS is one of the best movies on Amazon Prime Video

If you’re looking for a movie to watch on Amazon Prime Video, I hope you check out the Amazon Studios production, Gleason. 

The movie was released in 2016 and directed by Clay Tweel and documents the life of former New Orleans Saints special teams ace Steve Gleason and his battle with ALS. Gleason was diagnosed with the deadly disease at the age of 34. Doctors told him he had two-five years left, so he made the most of his time on this earth and began to document his remaining years for his wife, newborn son and the rest of the world. Banking recordings of his voice so his son can hear his voice was a moment that will leave you in tears.

If you’re a fan of the NFL, especially the Saints, then you’re likely familiar with Gleason’s story. He had one of the most memorable plays in the history of the franchise when he blocked a punt on the first possession of the first game in the Superdome after the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. His blocked punt and the touchdown helped rejuvenate a fan base and organization that had to deal with so much adversity the previous year.

That adversity would pale in comparison to the fight facing Gleason. ALS is one of the worst diseases and Gleason is showing you can face the deadly disease with strength, courage, and bravery. He began to document his life and form “Team Gleason” to help raise awareness and money for ALS patients around the world.

You may have heard of the Ice Bucket Challenge where people dump buckets of ice on their head to help raise awareness for ALS. For more on the disease and what it does to those afflicted with the disease, Steve Gleason is the face of ALS and we learn a lot about it in this movie.

It’s more of a documentary than a movie, but don’t let that stop you from watching Gleason and then doing whatever you can do to help raise awareness and money for ALS.
