Have you thought about paying for a membership to Amazon Prime but aren’t sure if it’s worth the money? Let’s look at the perks of a membership.

Amazon is moving closer and closer to world domination as they continue to take steps to cement themselves as the best retailer on the planet. They are launching new products and services seemingly every week and providing a number of choices for the consumer. The biggest feature they provide is Amazon Prime. This membership costs $99 for the year, but is the cost of membership really worth it?

For some consumers, it will be a resounding yes, but for others on the fence, let’s take a look at the perks of a Prime membership and how it can be beneficial for you.

Initially, Amazon Prime was only good for free two-day shipping on products. If you aren’t buying products with great regularity, saving a few bucks per delivery is not going to be worth the cost of membership. If you only use Amazon for Christmas presents and the occasional delivery, it’s not helpful. However, that’s not all that comes with a Prime membership any longer.

Amazon Prime Video

A Prime membership also comes with Amazon Prime Video so you can stream Amazon Original shows like The Man in the High Castle, Transparent, Catastrophe and more. This is their answer to Netflix and they’re quickly trying to close the gap. Amazon Prime Video also features a plethora of titles like The Americans, Justified and HBO shows like The Wire, Veep and The Sopranos. Plus, it has access to movies like Interstellar and The Hunger Games series. If you only get Prime for Amazon Video, it’ll be cheaper than paying for Netflix each year.

But wait, there’s more.

Amazon Music

A Prime membership also grants you access to Amazon Music and more than a million songs you can stream on your phone, tablet or computer. Not every song is available, but it feels that way when you look through the library of artists, albums and songs. It’s quick and easy to add the songs and albums to your library and you don’t have to deal with those pesky ads that pop up after every third song on other streaming music services.

Amazon Prime Pantry

While Amazon Video and Music were the two most prominent features that convinced me to get a Prime membership, Amazon Prime Pantry is my new favorite service. Forget about going to the grocery store or retail giant to get things for the pantry or household. I can pick from just about everything besides produce and meat and stock my shelves with all sorts of snacks, canned goods, cleaning supplies and more through Prime Pantry. You get free shipping on one “box” of goods based on the size and weight of the products you purchase and it sure beats heading out to the store.

Overall

I think an Amazon Prime membership is totally worth the $99 to join. If you’re still unsure, you can get a free 30-day trial to try the services to see if you want to commit. If you aren’t ready to commit, you can cancel at any time during the 30-day trial, so it costs you nothing to see if Prime is something you want to make a part of your life.
