When Grimm premiered on NBC in 2011, the occult police procedural wasn’t indicative of the current television climate. Campy series hadn’t been “in” for a while (maybe since Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which defines the campy supernatural drama genre), but Grimm beat the odds.

Detective Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli) is something of a Buffy Summers himself as a homicide detective slash descendant of supernatural hunters called the Grimms. He must maintain the precarious balance between humanity and the supernatural underworld of mythological creatures, which isn’t a job without its strange demands. (Buffy knows.)

Who knew that a show that mixed elements of the occult with a crime-of-the-week police procedural could transcend the surface level cheese factor to connect with mainstream audiences? Well, Grimm found its niche fanbase and will bow out with its sixth and final season, bringing the series to a whopping 123-episode binge-watch marathon.
