Did the anthology series exist before Ryan Murphy invented it with American Horror Story? Probably, but the prolific television producer popularized the latest trend on the small screen. In case you haven’t caught a season of American Horror Story, each season tells its own disturbing tale with a finite set of characters and events.

The first season starred Connie Britton and Dylan McDermott for a romp in Murder House. Season 2 welcomed us to Asylum, where chills and thrills abounded in a mental institution. Coven, the third season, brought a touch of witchcraft camp into the fold. The fourth season, Freak Show, traveled back to the 1950s at one of the last remaining “freak shows.” Perhaps one of the most polarizing seasons, Hotel featured Lady Gaga’s Golden Globe-winning role as a vampire hotelier in the fifth season.

Although an anthology series, American Horror Story’s sixth season, Roanoke, as well as the fourth season connected the stories and made for one twisted television universe. The upcoming seventh season will crossover Murder House and Coven, making it more appropriate than ever to relive the first 73 chilling episodes of the horror hit on Amazon Prime Video.
