7. The Good Wife

Release Year: 2009

Seasons: 7

Creator: Robert King, Michelle King

Starring: Julianna Margulies, Chris Noth, Matt Czuchry, Archie Panjabi, Graham Phillips, Makenzie Vega, Josh Charles, Christine Baranski, Alan Cumming, Zach Grenier, Matthew Goode, Cush Jumbo, Jeffrey Dean Morgan

As far as legal dramas go, The Good Wife carved out its own space in the genre. Not quite Law & Order but not quite How To Get Away with Murder, the Julianna Margulies starrer exists somewhere in the space between an old school procedural and a nail-biting serialized series. And it’s uncommon for CBS, which subsists on case-of-the-week dramas.

The Good Wife follows Alicia Florrick (Margulies), the wife of Illinois’ former State’s Attorney who faces conviction of a major scandal involving political corruption and sex. Alicia ditches her “good wife” persona, and she decides to dive back into her work as a litigator to provide for her children and make a name for herself.

The series finds Alicia struggling to balance climbing up the career ladder with the ongoing scandal in her personal life. Created by Robert and Michelle King, The Good Wife earned Margulies two Emmy Awards and garnered acclaim for its rare brand of storytelling. Before its spinoff, The Good Fight starring Christine Baranski hits CBS All Access, watch how the good story began.

There are family dramas like Parenthood and 7th Heaven, and then there’s The Sopranos. Sure, you could take away some heartwarming moments from the crime drama, but you’re not going to find those touching, tear-jerking family matters that you might in, say, This Is Us.

Perhaps one of HBO’s most well-known drama series, The Sopranos follows a family in suburban New Jersey with a mob boss for a father. The series centers on Tony’s precarious balancing act between family life and criminal life and all of the life altering dealings that ensue when you’re a leading mob boss.

The Sopranos became a pop culture institution during its six-season run, which spanned a total of 86 episode and incited plenty of chatter. Of course, the series concludes on a polarizing cliffhanger, becoming probably the most debated series finale of all time. See where The Sopranos shenanigans began on Amazon Prime Video!
