MTV, aka Music Television, hasn’t been known for its musical programming in some time. In the last couple decades, they have leaned more toward reality series and competitions. But every now and again, they introduced an original scripted series that connected with their audience. One such series was the incomparably hilarious Awkward.

Jenna Hamilton (Ashley Rickards) doesn’t stand out, but her crush on school heartthrob Matty McKibben (Beau Mirchoff) does. After they hook up on the last day at camp, she returns home business as usual to an anonymous letter. In the letter, a “friend” bluntly tells her to pluck herself out of obscurity. A misunderstanding leads her parents and the whole school into believing she attempted suicide. She’s left humiliated and stuck in an eyesore of an arm cast.

Awkward. portrays the high school experience like it never has been seen on television. With the fast-talking witticisms of Tamara (Jillian Rose Reed) and the striking cut downs of Sadie (Molly Tarlov), Awkward. tosses a little irreverence and intelligence into a rather self-indulgent, hormonal time in life. Laugh along with Jenna as she endures all of the teenage awkwardness.
