Who would have thought that just shy of the 10-year anniversary of its series finale, The Comeback, Lisa Kudrow’s little HBO show with big laughs, would stage a comeback of its own? In 2014, after a lengthy break from TV’s former “it” girl Valerie Cherish, she burst back onto the scene prepared to take over the world.

Kudrow stars as Valerie Cherish, a tragically optimistic veteran actress in the sitcom world (sounds familiar) dead-set on elbowing her way back into prominence. In Season 1, Valerie stars in a new sitcom, but doesn’t fit in with the young cast. In Season 2, she’s cast in an HBO series, and this time, her comeback almost works at the expense of her personal happiness.

The Comeback tells its story almost entirely in found footage from Valerie’s reality series documenting her climb back to the top. You loved Lisa Kudrow as Phoebe in Friends, and you’ll love her even more as the hilariously hopeless Valerie Cherish in The Comeback.
