As one of the most underrated Amazon Studios original series, Red Oaks flies under the radar of the mainstream. But the ’80s coming-of-age period piece carves out a space for itself as a highly relatable story of finding clarity—and yourself—in unlikely and unprecedented circumstances.

David Meyers (Craig Roberts), an uncertain NYU junior, spends the summer of 1985 working as a tennis pro at suburban New Jersey’s Red Oaks Country Club. Even though it’s the summer job of a lifetime, David finds himself pressured at every angle to pursue a future differing from his true desires.

Over the course of the summer, David becomes entangled in the Red Oaks world of crazy members and crazier employees. From the excellent cast to the welcome throwback to the coming-of-age thrills of John Hughes and Richard Linklater, you’ll definitely want to make a trip down to Red Oaks.
