There aren’t many bonafide throwback series on Amazon Prime Video, but out of the legendary series featured, The Andy Griffith Show and its immediately recognizable history stands out. The classic sitcom premiered in 1960 on CBS and produced 249 episodes of Mayberry madness.

The Andy Griffith Show drops viewers into the small (fictional) town of Mayberry, North Carolina, where Andy Taylor rules the town as sheriff and keeps the townspeople—and fellow law enforcement—in check. Andy’s joined by his zany deputy Barney Fife (Don Knotts), housekeeper Aunt Bee (Frances Bavier), and clever son Opie (Ron Howard).

The series captured a relative decade of time, a distinct tone in mood in our society, and arguably became one of the sitcoms that set the standard for future comedies. The Andy Griffith Show left a lasting legacy in the entertainment industry, and with all eight seasons available to stream, we can head back to Mayberry and relive all of the famous moments.
