Following his memorable and lauded turns in Three’s Company and Hooperman, John Ritter returned to television in a starring capacity with CBS’ short-lived sitcom Hearts Afire. Despite grabbing three seasons, the series didn’t make as dense of a pop cultural impact as Ritter’s previous television work.

Ritter starred as John Hartmann, an aide to a senator, who hires a new press secretary named Georgie (Markie Post) and finds their professional spats in Washington D.C. the battleground for a blossoming romance. The second season flipped the setting and storyline, moving John back to his hometown to save the local newspaper. Still, hearts were afire.

Most television fans have seen John Ritter’s work in shows like Three’s Company and 8 Simple Rules, but few have caught his work in between, apart from guest starring roles in other popular series. Watch another piece of his legacy with Hearts Afire.
