Although CBS’ short-lived 2009 sitcom isn’t a true throwback, its high-concept setup is a throwback to when sitcoms had a little more to their stories than just families or friends. Starring Dharma & Greg Golden Globe-winner Jenna Elfman, Accidentally On Purpose followed the relationships that resulted from a one-night stand.

Billie (Elfman), a film critic in her ’30s, has a one-night stand with 20-something Zack (Jon Foster) and becomes pregnant. Even though she and Jon choose to move in together, Billie still must handle the jealousy of her boss and almost-fiancé James (Grant Show).

Creator Claudia Lonow has a history of writing for and/or creating sitcoms about unconventional family setups, such as FOX’s The War at Home and ABC’s How To Live with Your Parents (For the Rest of Your Life). Accidentally On Purpose, with its great cast (especially Playing House’s Lennon Parham), boasts one of her most unconventional and hilarious family setups yet.
