Another throwback sitcom, That Girl premiered in 1966 on ABC and cemented an impactful five-season, 136-episode run. Anchored by Emmy-winner and celebrated activist Marlo Thomas, That Girl follows the exploits of aspiring actress Ann Marie (Thomas) as she jumps from audition to temp job on the road to becoming a star in New York City.

Joining Ann on the journey to becoming “that” girl, her boyfriend Donald Hollinger (Ted Bessell) stuck by her side while her parents, Lew (Lew Parker) and Helen (Rosemary DeCamp), expressed concern for her career path. Does she make it in the entertainment business?

While a legendary sitcom for its years of laughs, That Girl also ushered in a new era of feminist television. Looking around the television landscape of that time, Thomas’ Ann Marie was the only female character who wasn’t a housewife or living with her parents. That Girl was one of the first comedies to showcase goals beyond marriage, making it definite binge-watch material.
