In The Americans, two Soviet KGB spies, Philip (Matthew Rhys) and Elizabeth Jennings (Keri Russell), pose as the average American family living near Washington D.C to spy on the U.S. government. The series is set in the 1980s, begins shortly after Ronald Reagan was elected President, and focuses on events of the Cold War that happened in the ‘80s.

The Americans is one of the best period dramas of the last few years. I’d argue that The Americans is as good or better than any other series. It’s complex, riveting, and the writing is basically as good as it gets!

One of the more interesting things about The Americans is that the show was created by Joseph Weisberg, who also happens to be a former CIA agent.
