Absentia kicks off with FBI Agent Emily Byrne being found in a cabin. This doesn’t sound that strange, right? How about if I told you that she was barely alive when found? The twist is that she was abducted years earlier and presumed dead at the hands of the serial killer she was hunting.

The nightmare doesn’t end there. Emily can’t remember what happened to her and her family has moved on. Now it’s time to get back some of the life that she left behind, but it’s not going to be easy when the memories start coming back to her.

Absentia is one of those crime dramas that stays with you for a time afterward. It’s riveting TV, bringing you a mystery to unravel and some sort of closure at the end of each season. It’s just not always the closure that you want.

There’s development for each character on the series. Emily’s husband suffers from the guilt of giving up on her, while his new wife tries to be gracious but worries about the safety of Emily’s son, Flynn.

While the first season only holds a 50% score on Rotten Tomatoes from the critics, it is a series with international appeal and certainly worth the watch. You can check out both seasons currently available on Amazon Prime Video.
