41. The Unit (2006-2009)

4 seasons

Created by: David Mamet

Starring: Dennis Haysbert, Regina Taylor, Scott Foley, Robert Patrick, Audrey Marie Anderson, Max Martini

If you love military dramas, The Unit is something to put on your list. Unlike many of Foley’s more recent projects, this isn’t as humorous but more of a serious look at the lives and involvement of the Special Forces around the world. If you watch CBS’ SEAL Team or CINEMAX’s Strike Back, you’ll get an idea for this particular series.

All four seasons of The Unit are now available on Amazon Prime Video. Based on the book “Inside Delta Force: The Story of America’s Elite Counterterrorist Unit” by Eric L. Haney, you’ll be taken through the lives of these Special Forces soldiers, whose number one objective is to complete the mission. Of course, that’s easier said than done!

Despite four seasons, there are only 69 episodes. The first season was a midseason premiere, so only got 13 episodes (as is standard even today in TV). The third season only got 11 episodes due to the Writer’s Strike in 2008. Unlike many other shows, The Unit didn’t return after the Writer’s Strike was over and instead was picked up for a full-season order fourth season.
