When Invincible was renewed for a second season, it came with the exciting news that it was renewed for two seasons. Yes, Invincible Season 3 is happening, which is great news considering that cliffhanger ending.

Now eyes are on when the new season could arrive. We had to wait an excruciatingly long time for Season 2, which was then split in two parts. Will we have to face that again?

Is Invincible Season 2, Episode 8 the final episode?

There is a little bit of bad news in that Invincible Season 2, Episode 8 is the season finale. That’s the last episode of Season 2.

In some good news, it’s not the end of the series. Season 3 is still in the works. This wasn’t a show “unrenewed” by Amazon.

Why we had to watch for Invincible Season 2

There were a few factors at play when it came to the second season. The first was the pandemic. While filming had started back up by this point, things were still slow moving.

On top of that, the actors involved in Invincible were involved in other projects. Those had been delayed from 2020 in many cases, which meant they were a higher priority than the Amazon animated series. So, that put further delay on the voicework on the show.

Animation takes a long time to create. The animated work couldn’t be done without the voicework, so that further slowed things down.

Why the split season, though? I think that one came from the strike action. That meant all work on any WGA and SAG-AFTRA projects was put on hold, and Invincible fell under that. The first half of the season was ready, though, and Amazon knew that fans had waited long enough. Having four episodes and waiting for another four episodes was better than waiting until 2024 for the entire season. I think we can all agree about that.

There shouldn’t be the same wait for Invincible Season 3

Steven Yeun, who voices Mark on the series, confirmed with Collider that the wait for Season 3 shouldn’t be as long as the wait for Season 2. Work started on the third season early thanks to the early renewal, and there are some episodes already banked.

Robert Kirkman, the creator of the comics and the showrunner, also confirmed with Variety that he doesn’t want a big break again. He wants to be able to bring out new seasons each year, although that could look like 18 months realistically due to the way animated shows work. With some hope, we’ll get Season 3 in 2025.

Also, we hope that there isn’t a split season again. That works for the long break, but there’s no need for it if Kirkman’s plans can pan out.

Now the wait is on the renewal for Season 4. The creators and the voice actors are in this show for the long haul. We need Amazon to see that this is a show worth renewing.
