Fallout is based on a video game franchise
This series isn’t based on a book, but it does have source material. It’s based on the popular video game franchise of the same name.
The original game was brought out in 1997, but there have been many versions of the franchise over the years. After all, the beauty of a dystopian future is that there is no end until the entire world completely blows up. And that would have to happen on the screen and in full.
What is the series about?
Fallout takes place decades after a global nuclear war between the U.S. and China. People ended up living underground in vaults. In the games, the main player is a Vault Dwelller from Vault 13. They need to scour the wasteland that is Earth for a computer chip as Vault 13’s water supply system has failed.
Along the way, the game player comes across a few other survivors in the world. This leads to side missions to complete along the way.
In the TV series, we pick up 200 years into the future. Like the games, the world has come to near destruction thanks to nuclear war, although this one was after World War II that led to a resource war and a retrofuturistic society. Ella Purnell plays Lucy, a Vault Dweller who braves the new world in search for nuclear technology. This is a world that is brutal and dangerous, and a world that Lucy has never seen before.
There are eight episodes in the entire first season, and all eight episodes will drop at once. Are you ready for the wasteland?
Fallout is available to stream on Prime Video on Thursday, April 11.
