The Other Zoey parent guide: Why is the movie rated PG-13?
If you’re in the mood for a rom-com, you’ll want to check out one of the releases on Prime Video this week. It’s all about The Other Zoey.
Josephine Langford stars as Zoey Miller, a college student who is heavily focused on her studies. She isn’t interested in her romantic life. At least, that was until athletic student Zach turns up with amnesia. He’s sure that Zoey is his girlfriend.
Well, he does have a girlfriend called Zoey, but it’s not this one. What does she do when faced with telling him he’s got it wrong? She decides to play the part of the girlfriend. That’s sure to go down well!
The Other Zoey is a PG-13-rated one. This means that it is suitable for teenagers, and it could even work for tweens. Why has the movie been given this rating?
Why is The Other Zoey rated PG-13?
There is some language in this movie. You won’t hear any F-bombs, but you may hear some milder such as hell and damn. Sometimes the S-word gets into these movies, but not that often.
The rating is more about the suggestive material. This is a movie focused on college students, after all. Of course they are into drinking, partying, and some intimate moments with their partners. There are comments made, and some teenagers may feel a little uncomfortable about some of what is said and shown on the screen.
It’s a standard YA rom-com for the most part. If your teenagers have sat through Warm Bodies and Twilight, they’ll be fine with most of the material in this movie. There are some great learning experiences, throughout, especially when it comes to doing the right thing for a person with amnesia. You never know if you’ll come across someone. It seems to happen all the time in rom-coms, doesn’t it?
The Other Zoey is coming to Prime Video on Friday, Jan. 19.
