The Longest Yard

We’ll stick with the comedy for now. There are a few versions of The Longest Yard out there, but the one that you’ll want to check out this weekend is the Adam Sandler version. It has a great cast, a great story, and really focuses on the game of football.

The movie follows a former football player who was caught cheating. When he’s sent to prison, he ends up having to lead a group of inmates to win a game against the guards. Of course, nobody wants to follow him at first, but then he builds a team and learns how to put them before himself and his freedom.

Invincible

Next up is a movie that involves an underdog’s dream. Vince Papale is a lifelong football fan who sees his wildest dream come true. He gets the chance to become a member of the Philadelphia Eagles, becoming the oldest rookie in NFL history.

Not only does he end up being the oldest rookie, but he is the most inexperienced. At the age of 30, he’s resigned himself to teaching at his high-school alma mater. He never played football in college. Now he gets to kick in front of the world.
