5 movies you won't believe are turning 5 in 2024
Think back to 2019. It’s before the pandemic began and movie release dates were constantly pushed back. There were some excellent releases throughout the year, and here are five movies that you won’t really believe are turning five in 2024.
This was the year that Phase 3 of the MCU came to an end. And it was an epic end. Whatever you think of that moment with all the female superheroes—I know that was the biggest complaint for so many people because, well, I’m not even getting into that mess—the movie brought an epic buildup to a great conclusion. It’s just a shame that the MCU hasn’t been able to continue on as well since then.
The year also saw the release of some major and surprising hits, including Us, the live-action Aladdin, and Amazon’s Late Night. Here are some of the movies you just won’t believe that are turning five this year.
Avengers: Endgame
2019 saw the release of a few Marvel movies, including Captain Marvel. We needed Captain Marvel to really understand where she was at the time of the snap. After all, why would Nick Fury make a call to her to get help as the world came to an end.
Endgame picked up years after the snap. Thanos seemed to win, but the Avengers were not going to completely give up. Not all of them. They needed to find a way to right the wrong of Thanos and defeat him fully.
This movie brought an epic conclusion to the buildup we’d witnessed for years. The ending didn’t disappoint, not when you look at it objectively.
Escape Room
The start of the year saw the release of a horror movie that we didn’t realize we needed. Escape Room brought us a murderous take on real things that we all love to do. Solving puzzles to get out of somewhere is fun to do, and we get to how different personalities come out.
Escape Room the movie brought a deadly twist to the story. Each room was set up to kill people, and that’s what they did. We saw as some died to sacrifice themselves for others, and we got to see how people made mistakes that cost them their lives.
In the end, there was a survivor, and she was going to bring an end to the game world. Of course, with a sequel (which wasn’t anywhere near as good as the first movie), it was clear that she wouldn’t bring a complete end to the games.
Yesterday
If you love Beatles music, you’ll want to check out Yesterday. This is a movie that sees a man end up in a world where nobody remembers the music of the legendary band. He just happens to be a singer who wants to make it big, and he finally has a way to do it.
He starts to use the music of The Beatles to succeed in a way he couldn’t before. The question is whether he’ll be able to remember the lyrics of Eleanor Rigby.
Oh, and it turns out there are people following him. What do they want? Will they expose him for the fraud that he is?
Ready or Not
Who would have thought that a movie that involved childhood games would be something that would succeed? Ready or Not brought us the story of a woman who marries into a wealthy family. On her wedding night, she has to pick a game to play with her new in-laws. This is a family tradition.
It turns out that one of those games is a deadly one, and that’s the one that she picks. Now she needs to hide and survive the night as her in-laws attempt to kill her. Will her husband break tradition and save her, though? How often does this game end up being picked, and is there anyone she can actually trust?
This is full of great action scenes and twists. Samara Weaving proves that she can lead films.
John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum
It’s hard to believe that a movie franchise was formed off the back of one man getting revenge for the death of his dog. The John Wick franchise does not disappoint, and 2019 saw the release of the third movie in the series.
Keanu Reeves returned to take on more assassins and hitmen in his world. He has to collect items and gain people on his side after the killing of Santino D'Antonio on Continental grounds. This is sacred ground, and it makes him excommunicado.
With bounties on his head, he has to get the support he needs because he’s killed. The whole movie sets up the events of the fourth movie, which came out in 2023. The success of this franchise of movies also led to the creation of the prequel series The Continental.
