A Ghosts crossover with the UK version is wanted but difficult
When Ghosts first came to the U.S., many fans wanted to see the UK version that it was based on. That’s led to a few wishes, and one of them is for a crossover between the two shows.
Now that the UK version is coming to an end, there are questions about whether the timing could finally work out. After all, it was always going to be difficult when filming schedules for both sets of casts clashed and they were in different countries!
There’s some bittersweet news, though. It doesn’t sound like there will be a straightforward crossover with Alison and Mike heading to Sam and Jay’s house.
The problems with a Ghosts crossover
It’s not the locations that are the problem for the different shows. Nor is it even schedules at this point. Ghosts co-showrunner Joe Port explained to TVLine that it comes down to the characters.
While it would be fun to see Alison and Sam connected over their ability to see the ghosts and for Mike and Jay to connect over their inability to see the ghosts that their wives see, it’s a little strange. The problem is that both houses have a "pants-less ghost" and a man who died with an arrow through the neck.
"But as far as [Charlotte Ritchie and Kiell Smith-Bynoe] as Alison and Mike, that sort of doesn’t compute for us because it feels kind of strange… It just seems too similar, or something, to Sam and Jay. Like, they live in a house where there’s also a pants-less ghost and a guy with an arrow through his neck…."
I guess on a creative level, we also have to admit that there is another issue. The ghosts can’t travel. The only one who has been able to go past the ghost boundary is Pete, which came up in the third season. However, the longer he is away from the house, the more he starts to disappear, and he probably won’t want that to happen again.
Maybe it would be fun for Sam and Jay to go away and bump into Alison and Mike. Just a small cameo crossover could be fun to see happen, with neither couple really getting the chance to talk or the women not admitting to each other that they see the other ghosts. Maybe there’s a moment of realization for Sam as she notes that Jay couldn’t see someone but Alison could, but it’s too late to question Alison now.
Ghosts Season 4 premieres on Thursday, Oct. 17 on CBS. Episodes will air on Paramount+, which is available via Amazon Channels.
