Eric Kripke hints The Boys Season 5 may not arrive until 2026

If you were hoping for more of The Boys in 2025, you may be disappointed. With the way Eric Kripke talked about the development of the final season, it sounds like we’re going to have to wait until 2026.

Kripke talked to Deadline about the series coming to an end. Five seasons is a good point for him. He talked about how he is used to five acts in television, and how he wants to make sure characters (and shows) don’t overstay their welcome.

He also discussed the potential timing for the final season to arrive on Prime Video. With the early renewal, many fans hoped that we would get it by the end of 2025. However, it looks like it will take longer.

Eric Kripke expects The Boys Season 5 to take two years

The development of streaming shows takes longer than the development of broadcast shows. All episodes need to be written, filmed, and post-produced before the release, while broadcast can film as episodes air. A show like The Boys naturally ends up taking longer than a show like The Summer I Turned Pretty. There is far more CGI needed for the superhero powers and the gore.

Kripke told the publication that the final season is “easily a two-year stretch.” The early writing work has started, but the team is still very much involved in the current season that is airing. That’s the way streaming shows work. The focus needs to be on the episodes still to come out, promoting them and discussing them. Fans will have burning questions when watching, and maybe those answers can be revealed in interviews.

So, that suggests that we’re looking at the summer of 2026 for The Boys Season 5. This makes sense compared to the wait for Season 3 and then Season 4. While the pandemic and strike action affected those two seasons, we likely wouldn’t have got them within a year of the previous seasons anyway.

There is a spin-off that helps to bridge the gap, as well. Gen V Season 2 has started production, and that is likely to arrive in 2025.
