Classified parents guide: This coming-of-age drama may be suitable for older teens
What would you do if you found yourself living in a completely new country? Ella Gardner has to go through that in the new series Classified.
The Amazon series follows the 15-year-old who faces the consequences of her own actions. After getting arrested during a protest, she either faces jail time or she has to leave the country. Her father makes a deal, but it sees her getting on a plane to live with him and his wife in Johannesburg, South Africa.
It turns out that it may not have been her dad who got her out of jail. It was her stepmother, who is part of the CIA, and may need Ella’s help to get to the bottom of an assassination attempt. Will she help, or will she find herself in trouble in her new school?
Classified could be a series for the teens
The age rating in Canada is set at 16+. This likely means that it is a TV-MA rated show in the United States, although the official age rating isn’t available just yet.
Just because a show is TV-MA, doesn’t mean that it isn’t for some teenagers. The 16+ age rating in Canada suggests that this will be suitable for teens. The focus is on Ella, which means there are likely some older teen storylines that others will be able to connect to, even if they haven’t moved schools and countries as teenagers.
However, there is sure to be some heavy action, especially toward the end of the season. Remember that there is the CIA plot within the story. However, Ella isn’t a CIA agent, which means she shouldn’t be in the middle of the main action. This is a TV series, so she’ll probably find a way to get herself in trouble, though! Don’t all teenagers?
In short, this is likely to be good for the teens in the house. Classified is not something for the younger members of the family, though.
