There are a lot of shows coming to an end in the 2023-2024 TV season. Station 19 on ABC is one of them, and fans are rallying together in an attempt to save it.

You see, this is an ABC decision rather than a show decision by the sounds of things. This is despite the Grey’s Anatomy spin-off performing well in the live ratings. Wouldn’t it make sense to cancel something that isn’t performing as well and doesn’t have a large fanbase thanks to the crossover events with Grey’s Anatomy to encourage fans to watch both?

It leads to questions about whether a streamer could step in to save the show. Is it possible for Amazon to save Station 19?

It could be difficult for Amazon to save Station 19

I’m not saying it’s impossible, but it will be difficult for Amazon to step in and save this show. After all, the series currently streams on Hulu in the United States. This is a Disney-owned streamer, and we find that a lot of Hulu shows head to Disney+ Star across the rest of the world. Moving from one big streamer to another isn’t all that easy.

There are often heavy restrictions on the licensing agreements. However, something that does work in Station 19’s favor is that it’s not a streaming show. It’s a network show, which means there are no restrictions on previous seasons going to a new streamer.

Now for the other difficult part of saving the show. The cancellation news came in ahead of the show premiering. There is likely enough time for the show to wrap up storylines, and that’s the focus that the writers will be working with right now. It doesn’t look like the show is being shopped around to save it, hinting that while not happy about the decision, the cast and crew are ready for the end of the series. This is just a minor problem, though. With a show like Station 19, there are always ways to keep the stories going. It might just mean the odd character is no longer part of the renewal.

While difficult, it's not going to be impossible to save the show.

Why Amazon should save the Grey’s Anatomy spin-off series

This is one of those shows that brings up some important social storylines. Over the seven seasons, we’ve seen topics of queer love, transgender patients, and systemic racism. This is a series that doesn’t shy away from the truth on the drug epidemic in the United States, and it does bring to light the downsides of things like banning abortions.

Does it get political? Well, a lot of people will say yes, but that doesn’t take from the entertainment. We need to see these topics in TV shows. They’ve been hidden for so long because “TV is meant to be about entertainment,” or they’ve been covered up to make things look not so political. Just look at how progressive Star Trek has always been and yet a lot of people don’t see it. Same with OG Doctor Who! There are a lot of people complaining about “woke culture,” and we need to stand up and prove these shows are needed. That means shows like this need to be saved, which is why fans are rallying with a petition.
